Synopsis

This DVD box set presents the literally ground-breaking documentary series following the work of H.E. Services, Europe's largest digger hire company.

In this series we follow the men and women of H.E. Services and the extraordinary jobs that they and their machines get up to. From ripping a 747 to shreds to performing digger ballet, and from rebuilding a Premiership football stadium to rehousing penguins, the world of backhoe loaders, telehandlers and 40-tonne excavators is a hugely varied one.

Everything is co-ordinated from H.E.'s hire centre, watched over by hire manager Pam Durey - but will she keep a cool head when one of her diggers is stolen, or when an 8-tonne telehandler flips over on a country lane?

We also peek behind the scenes at Diggerland, the company's very own digger theme park.

Narrated by Sean Wilson (Coronation Street's Martin Platt).

Episode One
The UK construction industry is comprised of 2 million workers carrying out jobs worth £100 billion every year, an industry where smashing, grabbing digging and demolishing are all in a day’s work: but this workforce would be nowhere without their diggers. In the first episode of the series, it’s big digger versus jumbo jet, there’s a scramble to fight a raging forest fire, a digger takes on its biggest enemy, MUD, and London is brought to a standstill.

Episode Two
In this episode a giant sandpit gets dangerous, a digger is stranded as the tide comes in on a Cornwall beach, school’s out forever as a Reading school is demolished, and it becomes apparent that ripping out a kiddies’ playground isn’t child’s play.

Episode Three
In episode three, driver Dave is put under pressure in a quarry, a statue needs relocating from Cardiff to Exeter, and a ride at Diggerland gets a new part.

Episode Four
In this episode a digger eats tarmac, it’s digger versus the elements, Slough bus station takes a bashing, and ‘Diggers Got Talent’!

Episode Five
In episode five a Premiership stadium gets relegated, it’s goodbye to ‘this old house’, a 50ft chimney comes down in style in Northallerton, and it’s a race against time to build some penguins a new home.

Episode Six
In the final episode of the series, a row of houses in Plymouth is coming down but there’s one ‘small’ problem, as it’s digger versus rubble mountain in Walton-on-Thames. Sinking, spinning and getting stuck, all in a day’s work for a busy machine in Norfolk. Finally, it’s time for celebration at H.E. head office.
